Department of Computer Science and Engineering
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was established in 2005 with an initial intake of 60 students in the B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering programme. Over the past two decades, the department has progressively expanded its academic programmes, infrastructure, faculty strength, industry collaborations, research activities, and student-centric learning initiatives. The department currently offers three B.Tech. programmes in Computer Science and Engineering and its emerging areas, along with a two-year full-time M.Tech. programme in Computer Science and Engineering.
The M.Tech. programme in Computer Science and Engineering was introduced in 2010 with an initial intake of 18 students. The programme is designed to provide advanced knowledge and skills in core areas of Computer Science and Engineering, algorithms, emerging technologies, research methodologies, and application-oriented problem solving. It caters to graduates, practising engineers, IT professionals, and aspiring researchers seeking advanced expertise in Computer Science and Engineering.
The B.Tech. programme in Computer Science and Engineering was accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) on two successive occasions, in 2014 and 2017. These accreditations demonstrate the department's commitment to outcome-based education, academic quality, continuous improvement, and professional standards.
The department aims to develop graduates with strong expertise in computation, algorithms, data structures, programming, software development, Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing, Big Data, cybersecurity, and secure application development. Students are provided exposure to programming languages and technologies such as C, Python, Java, and open-source technologies, along with emerging areas relevant to industry and research.
The department has established Centres of Excellence and industry-supported initiatives in niche technological areas in collaboration with leading organizations such as PEGA Systems, CTS, TCS, Infosys, etc and other industry partners. These collaborations provide students and faculty with opportunities for exposure to current technologies, industry practices, hands-on training, certifications, internships, projects, and real-world problem solving.
The department follows a student-centric and experiential learning approach through a wide range of academic and co-curricular activities, including classroom teaching, seminars, student presentations, video lectures, MOOCs, NPTEL/SWAYAM courses, online learning, Minor and Honors programmes, internships, project-based learning, experiential learning, coding activities, hackathons, and industry-oriented training. These initiatives facilitate the development of technical competencies, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, teamwork, leadership qualities, innovation, and lifelong learning capabilities.
Research Centre and Research Guidance
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) has been recognized by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University–Gurajada Vizianagaram (JNTU-GV) as a Research Centre for the academic years 2023–24, 2024–25, 2026–27, and 2027–28. This recognition reflects the department's sustained commitment to strengthening research, innovation, and advanced learning in Computer Science and Engineering and its emerging areas.
The department has a strong research-oriented faculty base. All eligible faculty members holding Ph.D. qualifications have been recognized as research guides by JNTU-GV, in accordance with the applicable university norms. The recognized research guides have been allocated research scholars and are actively engaged in guiding doctoral research in their respective areas of specialization.
The Research Centre provides a structured platform for faculty members and research scholars to undertake advanced and interdisciplinary research, publish research outcomes in reputed journals and conferences, pursue funded research, develop intellectual property, undertake consultancy and collaborative research, and address industry and societal challenges through innovative technological solutions. The department promotes a vibrant research culture through faculty research, doctoral research, student projects, publications, workshops, seminars, collaborations, and innovation-oriented activities.
Student Associations, Clubs and Professional Chapters
The Association of Computer Science and Engineering (ACSE) functions as an active student body that promotes professional development, career readiness, technical competencies, interpersonal skills, and intrapersonal skills among students. ACSE organizes a wide range of activities including seminars, quizzes, industrial visits, paper and poster presentations, group discussions, guest lectures, career guidance programmes, coding competitions, coding games, and technical events.
The department also facilitates student participation through professional societies and technical clubs, including:

These professional chapters and student clubs provide platforms for students to pursue their technical interests, collaborate with peers, develop professional competencies, and participate in coding challenges, open-source contributions, hackathons, code-a-thons, technical competitions, workshops, and Engineering Clinics. These activities nurture innovation, creativity, problem-solving skills, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and industry readiness.
M.Tech. –Computer Science and Engineering
The Department offers a two-year full-time M.Tech. programme in Computer Science and Engineering, introduced in 2010 with an intake of 18 students. The programme provides advanced knowledge in Computer Science and Engineering, with emphasis on advanced algorithms, emerging computing technologies, research methodology, software development, and specialized areas of Computer Science.
Students are encouraged to participate in open-source projects, coding challenges, hackathons, code-a-thons, internships, technical competitions, research activities, and industry-oriented projects. The department promotes project work based on emerging technologies, research problems, industry requirements, and societal needs, thereby strengthening students' research aptitude and professional competencies.

Dr. Gandi Satyanarayana is currently working as Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Avanthi Institute of Engineering and Technology (Autonomous), Cherukupally, Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh, India, where he has been serving since 2019 onwards.
He received his M.Tech. in Computer Science and Technology (CST) with specialization in Artificial Intelligence & Robotics from Andhra University and his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from GITAM Deemed to be University, Visakhapatnam.
Dr. Gandi Satyanarayana has more than 28 years of teaching and academic administrative experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His major areas of research interest include Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence & Robotics, Computer Security, and Safety-Critical Computer Systems.
He has made significant contributions to research and academic activities. He has published 5 SCI-indexed journal papers, more than 20 Scopus-indexed journal papers, and more than 15 papers in UGC-CARE journals. He has also authored 4 books with ISBN numbers and has 7 published patents. He is a recognized Research Guide of JNTU-GV and is currently guiding one research scholar.
Dr. Satyanarayana has supervised nearly 45 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate student projects. He has also contributed extensively to academic activities by preparing UG and PG question papers for various autonomous institutions. He has participated in several Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), workshops, training programmes, and professional development activities, and has served as a resource person for FDPs and academic programmes at various colleges.
During his tenure, he has undertaken several important academic and institutional responsibilities. As IQAC Coordinator, he contributed significantly to institutional quality initiatives and the successful achievement of NAAC A+ accreditation. He has also contributed to the NBA accreditation process on three occasions.
As Chairperson of the Board of Studies (BoS), he has actively contributed to the design and development of course structures, curricula, and syllabi at UG and PG levels, incorporating the principles and academic framework of NEP 2020.
He has also served as a CSI Student Branch Counsellor and has contributed to strengthening student professional activities, technical events, and industry-oriented learning. In recognition of his contributions, the CSI Student Branch received the Best Student Branch Counsellor (SBC) Award from CSI Mumbai.
He has actively contributed to teaching, academic administration, curriculum development, accreditation, quality assurance, research, student mentoring, professional activities, and institutional development. His professional interests focus on promoting Artificial Intelligence, research and innovation, cybersecurity, and safety-critical computing systems. He is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Computer Society of India (CSI), and International Association of Engineers (IAENG).

Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.

Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4).
Design/Development of Solutions
Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required. (WK5)
Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems
Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8).
Engineering Tool Usage
Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. (WK2 and WK6)
