Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 2005 and currently offers 120 seats in the Undergraduate (UG) programme and 18 seats in the Postgraduate (PG) programme in CAD/CAM. The Department is one of the reputed departments of the institution, distinguished by its qualified faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure, student achievements, and diverse academic, research, and technical activities. Over the years, the Department has maintained a strong and consistent academic record, with several students securing University-level top ranks.

The Department follows an Outcome Based Education (OBE) approach, with emphasis on clearly defined Course Outcomes (COs), Programme Outcomes (POs), and Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs), enabling systematic assessment of student learning and continuous improvement in teaching and learning processes.

The Department has specialized facilities in CAD/CAM, Fluid Mechanics, Manufacturing and Production Technology, Energy Conversion, and other core areas of Mechanical Engineering, with experimental and computational facilities being continuously upgraded to meet emerging technological and industrial requirements.

The Department also has a Research Centre recognized by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Gurajada Vizianagaram (JNTUGV), providing an excellent platform for faculty and scholars to pursue advanced research, innovation, and collaborative research activities. Strong industry interaction is promoted through industrial visits, expert lectures by industry professionals, in-plant training, and industry-sponsored projects, enabling students to gain valuable practical exposure.

The Department supports students through placement training, competitive examination guidance, mock tests, workshops, seminars, technical programmes, and personality development activities. To encourage professional growth, innovation, creativity, and hands-on learning, the Department promotes active participation in professional bodies and technical clubs such as ISTE, ASME, Mechamorphis Club, Innovation Club, and Drone Club. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, research, innovation, MoU-based industry collaboration, professional development, industry readiness, and societal responsibility, the Department strives to nurture competent, skilled, ethical, and future-ready Mechanical Engineers capable of contributing effectively to industry, academia, and society.

Dr.S.Hidayatulla Shariff

Associate Professor & HoD

Dr. S. Hidayatulla Shariff is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Avanthi Institute of Engineering and Technology and also serves as Associate Dean – Research & Development. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from GITAM University and an M.Tech. in Thermal Engineering from IIT Madras. He has also completed a QIP-PG Certificate Program in Drone Technology from IIITDM Kurnool.

He has over a decade of academic and professional experience and has contributed 23 research publications, 5 published patents, and 3 books. His research interests include biofuels, biodiesel and nano-fuels, internal combustion engines, nanomaterials, engine performance and emissions, vibration and noise analysis, sustainable energy systems, renewable energy, and advanced materials. He is an ASME Professional Member and actively contributes to research, innovation, NBA accreditation, academic administration, and student development activities.
