About Department

About the Department

The Department of Management Studies was established in 2006 with the vision of providing quality management education and developing competent, responsible, and industry-ready business professionals. Since its inception, the Department has remained committed to academic excellence, professional development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and value-based education. Supported by well-established infrastructure, experienced faculty, modern teaching and learning facilities, and a student-centric academic environment, the Department strives to provide a stimulating and enriching ecosystem for management education.

The Department offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme with specializations in Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Business Analytics. The programme is designed to address contemporary industry requirements and the evolving business environment. Following the institution’s attainment of autonomous status, the Department enjoys enhanced academic flexibility to periodically review and enrich its curriculum, introduce emerging areas of management, strengthen experiential learning, and incorporate inputs from industry experts, academicians, alumni, employers, and other stakeholders through the Board of Studies and other academic bodies.

Academic Excellence and Outcome-Based Education

The Department follows a systematic Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework with clearly defined Programme Outcomes, Programme Specific Outcomes, and Course Outcomes. Teaching, learning, and assessment practices are designed to ensure that students develop not only conceptual knowledge but also analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, managerial competencies, communication skills, ethical values, leadership qualities, and an entrepreneurial orientation.

The Department places consistent emphasis on enhancing students’ academic performance. Through regular academic monitoring, mentoring, remedial support, tutorial sessions, continuous assessment, faculty guidance, and student counselling, students have demonstrated commendable progress in academics and university examinations. Special attention is provided to students requiring additional academic support, while advanced learners are encouraged to participate in research, competitions, certification programmes, seminars, workshops, and other value-added activities.

The teaching and learning process extends beyond conventional classroom instruction. Faculty members employ modern and participative pedagogical approaches, including case studies, business simulations, presentations, group discussions, role plays, management games, quizzes, brainstorming sessions, experiential learning activities, project-based learning, problem-solving exercises, seminars, and real-world business analysis. These approaches enable students to effectively connect management theories with contemporary business situations.

Industry Readiness and Placement Support

The Department places strong emphasis on enhancing the employability and career readiness of MBA students. In coordination with the institution’s Training and Placement initiatives, the Department provides comprehensive placement support to prepare students to meet the expectations of corporate recruiters.

A structured Campus Recruitment Training (CRT) programme is conducted to strengthen students’ aptitude, quantitative ability, logical reasoning, verbal ability, communication skills, group discussion performance, interview skills, résumé preparation, professional etiquette, and overall personality development. Mock interviews, mock group discussions, aptitude tests, company-specific training, and career counselling sessions are organized to enhance students’ confidence and employability.

Students are also provided with opportunities to engage in industry interactions, guest lectures, corporate training programmes, workshops, industrial visits, internships, live projects, and professional interactions with representatives from diverse sectors. These initiatives enable students to gain insight into contemporary business practices and bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations.

The Department continuously works to strengthen its placement ecosystem by providing career guidance, skill-development opportunities, placement training, and interaction with prospective employers. Students are encouraged to identify career opportunities aligned with their chosen specializations and to develop the competencies required to succeed in competitive recruitment processes.

Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Department promotes a culture of research, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among faculty members and students. Students are encouraged to undertake research projects, business surveys, case studies, field studies, and industry-oriented projects that enable them to examine contemporary managerial and societal challenges.
Particular emphasis is placed on fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among students. Through entrepreneurship awareness programmes, business idea development initiatives, interactions with entrepreneurs, innovation-oriented activities, and institutional entrepreneurship programmes, students are encouraged to explore opportunities beyond conventional employment and consider entrepreneurship and start-up creation as viable career pathways.

Faculty members contribute to academic and professional advancement through research publications, conferences, seminars, workshops, Faculty Development Programmes, certification courses, consultancy-oriented activities, and interdisciplinary research. These initiatives contribute to the development of a vibrant academic and research culture within the Department.

Holistic Student Development

The Department firmly believes that management education should contribute to the overall development of students rather than focus exclusively on academic performance. Accordingly, students are provided with opportunities to participate in seminars, presentations, quiz competitions, management meets, case-study competitions, group discussions, mock interviews, cultural activities, professional clubs, social outreach programmes, sports, and various co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Soft-skills and personality-development programmes are regularly conducted to enhance students’ communication, leadership, teamwork, decision-making, emotional intelligence, time management, negotiation, conflict-management, professional behaviour, and interpersonal effectiveness. These competencies enable students to become confident professionals capable of functioning effectively in diverse organizational environments.
The Department also promotes ethical leadership, social responsibility, sustainability, inclusiveness, and human values, recognizing that successful managers must be capable of balancing organizational objectives with the interests of society and the environment.

Mentoring and Student Support

The Department follows a student-centric mentoring system to provide continuous academic and professional guidance. Faculty mentors engage with students to understand their academic progress, career aspirations, skill gaps, and developmental needs. Students receive guidance in selecting appropriate specializations, certification programmes, internships, projects, career opportunities, and higher-education pathways.
The Department is committed to creating an environment in which every student is encouraged to learn, participate, innovate, communicate, lead, and grow. Continuous feedback from students and other stakeholders is used to further enhance academic delivery and student-support mechanisms.

Our Commitment

The Department of Management Studies is committed to creating an academic environment that integrates knowledge, skills, values, technology, innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and industry exposure. Through continuous curriculum enrichment, Outcome-Based Education, modern pedagogical practices, CRT and placement support, industry interaction, academic mentoring, research activities, and holistic development initiatives, the Department prepares students to address the challenges of a rapidly changing global business environment.
With a strong foundation established in 2006 and enhanced academic opportunities under the autonomous framework, the Department continues to advance with a steadfast commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
Welcome to the Department of Management Studies—where academic knowledge is transformed into managerial competence, professional confidence, ethical leadership, and entrepreneurial capability.

Industry Exposure

Internships & Industrial Visits

Industry Connect

The Department of Management Studies regularly organizes industrial visits to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world business practices. These visits provide students with practical exposure to logistics, operations and supply chain management, helping them understand the functioning of large-scale industrial and infrastructure organizations.

Industrial Visits

Industrial visits are organized regularly to provide students with practical exposure to industrial environments, logistics operations, infrastructure management and professional work culture beyond the classroom.

Industrial Visit

Visakha Container Terminal (VCT)

Students visited the Visakha Container Terminal (VCT) on April 30th. VCT operates the container terminal in Visakhapatnam and, located at the centre of India's East Coast and closest to the Malacca Straits, serves as an ideal gateway for container traffic from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.

VCT is blessed with a natural depth of 16 m alongside (the deepest in the country) and state-of-the-art container handling infrastructure. The present terminal capacity of 0.55 million TEUs was planned to be extended to more than 1.5 million TEUs by 2021. The terminal is well equipped with modern infrastructure including Post Panamax STS cranes, the latest NAVIS SPARCS N4 software, more than 366 reefer plug points, adequate power backup, 2 full-length rail sidings and a fully computerized environment. The organization uses Navis N4 as its Terminal Operating System (TOS) and has moved a step further by integrating with SAP.

VCT is gradually evolving as a regional transhipment hub in the Bay of Bengal, with containers from Kolkata, Haldia, Paradip, Kakinada, Chittagong and Yangon getting transhipped here. It has well established rail and road connectivity to the hinterland, providing smooth access for cargo movement to local hinterland and ICDs at NCR, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Raipur. VCT is accredited with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 28000:2007 and ISO/IEC 27001:2013, and has been conferred AEO status by Customs.

Learning Outcomes

  • Container Terminal Operations & Logistics
  • Port Infrastructure & Cargo Handling
  • Terminal Operating Systems (Navis N4)
  • Supply Chain & Transhipment Management
  • Quality & Security Accreditation Standards

Benefits of Internships & Industrial Visits

These programmes help students strengthen conceptual knowledge, improve communication skills, understand professional ethics, enhance teamwork, develop problem-solving abilities and gain confidence to meet industry expectations. They also create opportunities for internships, placements and higher education by connecting students with professionals from various organizations.
